A strong earthquake, of 5.3 degrees, was recorded in the Dominican Republic, at 10:34 am, 28 kilometers southeast of Mano Juan in the isla Saona, in the Caribbean Sea.
It is reported that its depth was 55.2 km.
According to preliminary information of the seismological Institute of the UASD tremor had been 5.8 degrees, which was then fixed, when it pointed out that it was 5.3
Panic gripped many who, at the time the earthquake occurred were in tall buildings and evicted them.
So far there are no reports of human or material damage.
The United States Geological Service also realized Quake with the same magnitude reported by the Sismológico de UASD, of 5.3.
Another major earthquake occurred in the region this December 22, 4.2.
The scientific advisor of the Executive Branch on seismicity and disaster prevention, León Osiris, said last month at Diario Libre that the tremors in the region this are caused by two very active geological faults, one of them located in the trenches of Puerto Rico or Fossa of Milwaukee, and another in the Enriquillo-Plantain Garden, which caused the earthquake in Haiti, and that passes through Port-au-Prince, Barahona, Azua South, the great Santo Domingo, La Romana, Higuey and South of Puerto Rico.
